Ramping Up Plan
Building strong foundations in reading and mathematical thinking—the IB way. A structured, low-pressure program designed to help Grades 6–9 students grow with confidence, reflection, and independence.
Purpose of the Ramping Up Plan
At Windsor Hall, strong academic skills are built through consistent practice, reflection, and meaningful growth—not pressure. The Ramping Up Plan supports students in Grades 6–9 as they strengthen two essential foundations for success in the IB Middle Years Programme and beyond: reading and mathematics.
Rather than focusing on short-term performance, the plan emphasizes long-term skill development, confidence, and student independence.
Why this matters in the IB MYP
In the IB framework, students are expected to think critically, communicate clearly, reflect on their learning, and manage their own growth. This plan is designed to support those habits in practical, age-appropriate ways.
Students are supported to:
- Think critically and solve complex problems
- Communicate effectively across subjects
- Reflect on progress and set realistic goals
- Develop independence and self-management
Communication
Strengthened through structured reading, vocabulary development, and clear expression.
Thinking Skills
Developed through mathematical reasoning, strategy selection, and problem-solving.
Self-Management
Built through consistent habits, weekly routines, and achievable goal-setting.
Reflection
Embedded through checkpoints that help students understand what is improving and what comes next.
A supportive plan, not a high-pressure program
Personalized Growth Path
Each student progresses from their current level, with individualized goals that evolve over time.
Low-Pressure Checkpoints
Short, regular check-ins replace traditional testing and help students reflect, adjust, and grow.
Consistent Skill Building
Small, manageable weekly habits build lasting academic strength without overwhelming students.
Guided Academic Support
The program is supported by the Academic Coordinator, who works with students and teachers to monitor progress.
How the plan works
The Ramping Up Plan follows a simple cycle: understand the student’s starting point, set goals, practice consistently, reflect, and adjust.
Starting Point
Students begin with a light diagnostic to understand their current reading and math levels.
Goal Setting
Students set achievable, personalized goals aligned with their growth areas.
Weekly Practice
Short, structured activities are integrated into the student’s routine, with the emphasis on consistency rather than volume.
Checkpoints & Reflection
Regular check-ins encourage students to reflect on what improved, what challenged them, and what their next step should be.
Continuous Adjustment
Goals and strategies evolve as students grow, ensuring steady and meaningful progress.
Guided by care, clarity, and encouragement
The Ramping Up Plan is guided by Windsor Hall’s Academic Coordinator, who works alongside teachers to help students feel supported, understood, and prepared for their next step.
Allan Hiesh
Students have opportunities for informal check-ins, making the process approachable and supportive. The aim is to help students understand their growth, build confidence, and develop habits that last beyond a single assignment or assessment.
Teacher Collaboration
Reflective Learning
What students gain

Greater confidence in mathematical thinking and problem-solving
Independent learning habits aligned with IB expectations
Improved readiness for high school academic demands
Clearer awareness of personal strengths and next steps
Growth without unnecessary pressure or comparison
What this plan is not
To ensure clarity for families, the Ramping Up Plan is a support system—not an additional burden.
Our Commitment
The Ramping Up Plan reflects Windsor Hall’s commitment to developing capable, confident, and reflective learners—students who are not only prepared for academic success, but equipped with the skills to thrive in the IB journey and beyond.
